Sounds a lovely car, but (there's always a "but" with an XM these days) you may have to target your advertising carefully to get what you think it's worth... -I'm pretty sure that only one top spec XM was sold in the UK one year !(towards the end of its production), so it should be a classic by now ! Wish I could be more help.. ( Does it really have to go ? you'll only wish you'd kept it!)

i haven't got the car but i am thinking of buying it.i have the same model but it's a 1995.the price that it is advertised for seems very high for a 7 year old car especially with the xm's reputation

The seller is obviously a famous comedian.
£6000 is getting into the sort of money you can pick up a C5 for, if an XM is what you really want, shop around and one will turn up for reasonable money. The XM is a comfortable car and the estate is massive but it isn't worth £6000, not today in this country anyway.

Blimey, unless its the 2.5td Exclusive spec with alcantra suede option, i wouldnt expect it to fetch much more than £3000, at 6k they are having a giraffe

Real truth? about £1800 topside if it is really special, otherwise in the trade, considerably less. In local auctions around here it would be short of bidders above £1200. This is a very specialised car and the market is very limited. It is obviously worth a lot more to those who might appreciate this model and consequently will pay more. If you want one, good ones are hard to come by, but please do not regard it as an investment unless you can find a like minded person to buy it when you sell it. It is a dated old car with little following and could break your heart and wallet. Spend your money on another dream.

Its worth what someone is prepared to pay for it. Late XMs of any sort are very rare, diesels and estates even rarer as the didn't sell many. I have been looking for a late 2.1 td manual estate and I havn't seen one for sale anywhere in the country for about 3 months.

The site doesn't say how much they sold for or how long the dealer had a hold of them, I suspect a discount may have been required, in fact they may well have been unable to shift them and sold them on to another dealer or stuck them back in for auction. They really are rare enough now that the average punter wouldn't know that they weren't worth what the dealer was asking, and even at those prices they'd look attractive next to a 5 series BMW, or a Mercedes E class.

There are a few 2.1 manuals about, I have a '96, in fact this is the second,96 I have owned and they both had the same registration letters : N---YBL but, it was actually manufactured in '95 as I found to my cost when the new radiator I ordered didn't fit! There are a very few later ones, there was a 'T' reg on eBay about 6 months ago but I think these must have been spesial orders, judging by the mileage 300k + they were probably taxis. This one apart from the mileage was accident damaged and had a slipping clutch, so when the bidding passed £750 I pulled out, it eventaully went for £1600 +.
