I changed my self today the oil and oil filter of the C5 (first time on a car, used to to tractors[:P])
I noticed that the 1st gear and reverse aren't hard to engage anymore. Is the gearbox oil shared with the engine?
BTW, at Citroën they used Total Quartz 9000, i used a 10W40 semi-synthetic from GM, relatively cheap (could go to Lidl, 10€/5L, but 15W40), going to start changing it at 10.000Kms interval (the engine is tuned...should i go for 5000miles intervals?)
Cheers!
Curious thing (HDi engine related)

If you have tuned your HDI, nothing less than fully synthetic 5W40 or 10w40 if you live in a hot country will do.
I change my oil at 6,000 miles (10,000km) using Quartz 9000 5w40 and a genuine Citroen filter (from GSF). It costs me £25, but compared to the cost of a new engine it isn't money wasted.
How did you tune your HDI?
