xm engine swap

Unread post by Matthew »

I have a reconditioned engine with new oversize pistons in an old 1990 td12 xm the turbo is also reconditioned (10km ago)= New camshaft new bearings completly reconditioned head. Otherwise this car is not to reliable and the wife wants me to get rid of it. I spent 1200pounds in poland to have all this done. Shame to see it good bye. Meanwhile i bought a n reg xm, the same engine with 73000 miles on clock. Do you think is of any use to put my reconditioned engine into n reg xm?

No, there is a lot of life left in the engine that is in the car.

I have a 2.1 td engine in my garage with 73K on it and I would consider it as just run in. The last XM I sold had 292k on it and was still going strong. Change the oil every 5k, not necessarilary with expensive oil, as long as it meets the spec, and it will last almost indefinatly, barring head gaskets but these will usually go 150k.

Why not keep the engine from the 'unreliable' car as insurance against the other one failing - best of both worlds!

Yes, good idea. In my experience, if you keep a spare the other one never goes wrong!
