Any advice about Height control.

Hello
When I bought my xantia which is 3 months ago, it was on 185/65/15 wheels and I was thinking that they are not the original size and I was thinking what to do later when I went to the local scrapyard I bought very good set of vsx alloysand wheels195/55/15 and was happy with that.But later I started thinking that the back of the car was too high especially with the new tyres so I decided to drop it little. I loosen the rod linked to the HC and gently pushed and the back dropped and same for the front. But now the car is too low and the ride comfort is completely gone and I think I screwed up the HC because the control lever is stiff and the car wont rise or sink. I would try to push it back again but I am quite reluctant to do so as it might get worse. Does any body knows the normal riding height???
Like the distance between the bumper and ground??
