Help !! Accelerator cable replacement

Unread post by cerbera »

I had the misfortune to have a snapped cable and also a faulty wotzit (don't know what its called but I'm assuming its the adjuster for the cable !) When I say faulty, its now in bits as it fell apart when I removed the whole things from the car !!
Now I have a replacement cable kit from GSF, but this part wasn't present.. what is it called... and can I get it from GSF.. and finally.. the kit instructions were not great.. and not being generally clued up on how its supposed to go together, wasn't sure if I was understanding it right ! So has anyone put these kits together, and if so.. what do I do !!! lol.. Thanks in advance for any help... and advice!!!

You tend to get these problems with a red car. - seriously - we like to cheat a bit on here and knowing the make, model, engine and model level and sometimes even the transmission type and the year makes a difference.

I feel more than a little silly right now !! Spent so long trying to work it out I didn't think to actually be specific !!
Anyhoo... Xantia 1.9 TDSX Estate Manual (1997) Its part of the accelerator cable, right next to the air filter housing. Looks like a tube about 3 inches long, the cable passes through it and there is (was) a spring inside it !!
As I said, the kit didn't seem to come with this so I am starting to think it may be a separate part... and my assumption that it would come with the kit was way off !!
Hope this makes it a little clearer !![:I]

Well, I managed to pop into a breakers on the way home tonight and got the part that had broken, luckily off a Pug 406 as they had all been removed from the Xantias !! I worked out how to put it all together and just need to get the 'nut' on the end to pop it back into the arm.. but just can't get it over the frayed end of the wire !! DOH !! Oh well... back to work to try and get the bugger on !!

Can you cut both the inner cable and the outer sleeve back a bit (separately of course) to give new ends? Often there's quite a bit of slack cable.
