Haynes BOL Rear Brake Confusion

Post by G4EIY »

Hi Folks,
Citroen BX
Yet another confusing statement:
In my book (No publishing date),
on page 212
Item 4 Disc pads (rear) renewal.
item 9 Locate the spring clip with the crossbar at the BOTTOM of the caliper and retain it in position with the through bolt (photo).
But the photo 4.4A shows the crossbar at the TOP of the caliper.
Having contacted Haynes via email, they inform me that the photo is correct, ie crossbar should be at the TOP of the caliper.

Honestly Brian -
You are nitty pitty here - as it does not matter if the spring is fitted with its crossbar up or down. It fits perfectly either way.
I have never considered this a problem and simply pr backbone fitted the pad spring like I wanted - up or down - as I never even thought about how the "strictly correct" fitting is.
Having serviced and driven BX/CX since '90 I've never had problems with this - and never seen any mysterious wear patterns due to this.
If you have time for such details - you will find lots & lots of minor discrepancies in the manuals. The kind of nit-pits the old dogs dont even notice anymore [8D]

Hi Anders,
Yes that was exactly my thoughts, but I wanted to be absolutely sure of the position of this spring.
You can't take chances with brakes!!!.
Cheers
