To change the wheel use a torx driver and remove the two screws to the rear of the wheel. Take care as these are the only screws holding on the air bag. Be sure to re attach the tiny air bag electrical connector to the contact on the wheel. The rest is obvious and is simple. I have done a few of these as the wheel surface breaks up and looks untidy in a nice car.

Shouldn't the battery be disconnected for 15 minutes so that the airbag electrical system discharges to avoid a probable airbag burst?

you only need to wait 2 minutes (or 10 minutes if the warning light is on or flashing)
