What do you think?

Unread post by bikeboyz »

Club Peugeot UK are thinking about a French themed car show/day this time next year. We are thinking along the lines of French Car Show, but for older vehicles, more Retro say 1950s to 1990s. We want to capture the audience of Peugeot 4 and 5 series, Citroen DS,CX,GS,BX, Renault 4, 5, 11, 25, Twingo, etc etc etc etc for all French Cars. We are not looking for a wide boy massive stereo, chav, highly modified day. We are considering Kemble Airfield near Cirencester, as it has good facilites, easy access from both M4 and M5. We would have a runway or two at our disposal for speed driving, and other live action.
OK - Your thoughts please! What would you like in a day like this? what would you consider paying for entry and use of the runway?
thanks Mat

Hmmm interesting.. If we have to rent the strip by the hour it could prove expensive, as in my case with a ZX 1.9D "I may be gone for quite some time".!! heh heh ... [:o)] [:I] [:D] [^]

OK, but you might like to see how your BX TD handles compaired to a 305 GTX or whatever!! The thought isn't that there is only going to be speed trials but formulated from ideas, wether that be tests of driving skill or similar... but thats what we want to hear from everybody.

Great Idea, I'd be well up for that. Frankly I was a bit disappointed that the FCS did not have many older cars there (I saw and admired your 504 Bikeboyz! and that pale blue one). I admired the BX 16s too but their owners were very suspicious of a 205GTi owner nosing around them!!!
FCS was far too much chav biassed for me. Those hideous monstrosities revolt me, especially when I see a 205 GTi given the tratment. Sacriledge...

The blue one is Stuart Bird's 504 (practical classics group test). We will both be at Prescott Hill Climb for the PSOOC Pugfest on Sunday.

Just a bump for this, as we are going to discuss this at a meeting this weekend. Really need some thoughts from all you folk as to what would make a great French motoring day for more retro motors, as well as the non chav'd modern ! We have spoken to Kemble airfield who have accepted the inital proposal, now the nitty gritty bits. What? when? and who?
Suggestions, comments, cars, include, exclude, testing, statics, moving, beer, whatever comes to mind to make a good French day. We could even aim to have the largest gathering of French cars in the UK. We have already been ear marked 800x400 meters of hard standing as well as the normal grass.
Thanks Mat.

Id come,
CX, 2CV, Dyane i think all my cars fall into desired category.
Sounds like a good idea.
Would it be a one day thing or possibly 2 days with overnight camping or something? I think 2 days or more jobs always let youget into spirit of things.

Well the thought at the moment is one full day, although I have camping and distance travel on my list already.
I was also thinking perhaps a "Revolution" theme, which could mean so many different things e.g. DS to Citroen. 1789 of course being the French Revolution.

Blimey Stinkwheel, you've changed colour! Congrats on the 500th posting (a little late it seems, sorry!).
I'm sure the 2cv'ers would be up for it - as long as there is beer. Apart from tee-total me, they ain't shandy drinkers!
That French themed day in Northants this summer was great so if we try and promote via the many French car clubs, we should get a real nice day out. Need to advertise early as Summer always fills up quick! For 2cvers, most of May and August bank holiday weekend are out next year for starters.
Shouldn't exclude any but put in a speed hump so super-low chavved things can't get in! I guess we need to consider whether this is likely to be a family thing or whether it'll just be a load of blokes standing in a field gawping at cars!
It's always nice to have a separate show of super-nice cars from a few clubs but that may be a bit over the top this time around! Just bouncing ideas around as I'm thrilled about the idea!

Sorry, post hungry tonight! The event I've mentioned above is a one day show but the need for camping meant that a Saturday night camp was added. Then a Friday night and now, despite there being nothing organised for the Saturday at all, people tend to make a 3 day weekend of it! So maybe that's the way to play it. Camping on Saturday and the event on Sunday.

Is Kemble Airfield at the Kemble in Gloucestershire by the way?

Cool. By the way, did get your e-mails. Just spending too much time on forums to reply (one e-mail address feeds the other just to be confusing!)
