Xantia Mileage excessive??

Post by gjb02 »

Looking at a 1993 Xantia SX 1.9 TD(for my Dad),it has 184,000 miles on it.
Question is this....how many more miles can I expect out of the old girl??
It has been very well cared for, regular servicing, etc. I've no reason to believe it's been driven hard.
I'm looking this afternoon...so quick answers please.[:D]

A friend of mine had an L reg Xantia 1.9TD that was still going strong at 225K
Unfortunately he wasn't bothering to check the water level and a minor water leak led to the engine overheating & seizing. He got an engine from a scrap Pug 406, put it in the Xantia and got another 30k out of it before someone ran into the back & wrote it off!

I have seen citroen diesels do far in excess of this mileage. What normally finishes them off is not wear but abuse and lack of maintenance. High on the list for termonal damage is cam belts, cooling problems, lack of clean oil. Go ahead and enjoy the old girl if your dad has looked after those things in the past.

Sorry, I missed the point that it was for your dad! I should not be paying anymore than £400 for this car, even if it seems in fair fettle. There are plenty around with mileages under 130k for this year.
