Changing my knocksenor

Post by patneenan »

I need to change the knock sensor on my activa turbo, but the BOL says nothing.
Is it easy ,as it looks well hidden under pipes and stuff?
What bothers me most, is the resetting the e.c.u. business
What exactly is involved in resetting it, and how do I go about it?
Battery off?
How long for etc.
How long does the ecu need, to "relearn" its new parameters?
Hope this cures the pinking and maybe even the flatspot!!

age of car/engine cc/engine number if you have it or chassis number, if the knock sensor had a fault it would be shown on the engine warning light and a code would be available.

I've got the sensor as the fault code came up as knock sensor fault, and the orange fault light stays on for a bit on start up.
I just need to know whats involved in changing it and the resetting of the ecu
Thanks Pat

the code reader also turns that light off at a third the price of the dealer.

only the older cars clear the code when you remove the earth wire from the battery also this is a good point to remember like the radio code will be lost also, only remove the earth wire because this is how to reset the airbag light because if you fit the live first then the earth it logs an airbag fault and the light stays on, I hope you did ok with the knock sensor.

Well good news!
I changed the knock sensor today, with only the min amount of spanners ,(no elbows or universal joints for the sockets), and as I disconnected the battery on reconnecting it the fault light has gone out for good but the best thing is , is that the flat spot / misfire past 3,000 rpm has now gone and she pulls cleanly all the way to the red line with not so much as a hesitation.
I feel really pleased with myself as I am no mechanic!!!
The car is 10 times better now.
I now have a feeling she'll be better on juice as well
Well worth the grazed forearms and filthy nails!!!
Didn't know that such a small piece of kit could make such a difference.
P.S. I bought the sensor in my local Pug dealer for about £20 less than the Cit stealer.
