Petrol in diesel, only a small amount!

Post by JohnT »

I have two gallons of diesel with petrol in it, diesel 70% petrol 30%, can I put the lot in to my Xantai diesel if topped up? Will it cause damage? Or bin it?

It seems to me that diesels have been run on far worse mixtures than that, just don't try putting it in a petrol engined car!

Value of contaminated fuel £8 - cost of repair £?
Approximate quantity 5 pints petrol - bit more than needed as a cleaner.
Do you like gambling?

If you love your Xantia you wont put the crap into the tank. "Somebody" put super unleaded into a 5 year old Vauxhall Astra 1.7 td (1995 model) for some unknown reason she "forgot" to tell me. The result - sitting on the outskirts of Camarthen wondering what the hell was wrong with this car? The end result was one fuc**d Astra. Even today I still remind her to put the correct fuel in. It is your car after all.

Must be a few pints pr brimmed tank then.
Used to clean my BX diesel foam air filter element in petrol. This was enough to have quite a few violent "pops" from the exhaust. But in this instance the petrol is getting in the wrong way.
Try do a bit more accurate calculation on the final dilution. You can not be wrong if you are within the mix for cold winter running.
