Anti roll bar drop links

Post by mcgregor »

Hi
I have a knocking sound coming from the front of my 2001 Xantia HDi. The general consensus is that its the anti roll bar drop links. Does this sound like a correct diagnosis? Is it a straightforward enough job to do. Are there any pitfalls to be wary of? Any advice and help appreciated.
Cheers
Dave

People complain of having to saw the bolts off, but otherwise its a very easy job apparently. The longest part of the job is jacking the car up and taking the wheel off!
Make sure you have replacement nyloc nuts for them and you'll be fine.

If you clean the threads first and apply WD40 and then let it soak for a while before you try and undo the nut. If and when the bolt starts to turn, you'll need either a Torx bit or Allen key to fit into the end of the bolt end to stop it turning while you undo the nut. Otherwise if you take off the rubber boot, you can use a pair of small mole grips holding the ball end ridge. At worst as already said, saw it off, but thats easier said than done on the strut bracket.
Good Luck
