Auxiliary drivebelt 405 with p/s & aircon

Post by David Humphrey »

The belt on my car looks like it should be replaced and I wondered whether anyone had any tips or advice for trouble free replacement please ?

Hi
This is an easy job.
The drivers side front wheel has to come off ( Use an axle stand! ) Then the plastic arch liner trim has to come off, A few clips & some screws for this, Cut the cable ties holding the coolant pipe to the liner & you MUST replace the cable ties when its put back together!
Do you have the automatic spring loaded tensioner or the manual adjustment version fitted?

Thanks for the reassurance.I think it has both. Certainly has the automatic but haven't taken the cover off yet.

Ok
Use a socket bar in the hole in the tensioner to take the tension off the belt & then lock it off with a 4mm allen key or drill bit in the locking hole in the tensioners body, The spring is very STRONG!
Make a note of the belts location around the pullys before removal.
Old belt off, check pullys bearings for play & wear, If happy stick the new belt on.
Remove lock pin, Let the tension back on the belt GENTLY.
Stick it all back together, Not forgetting to cable tie the coolant pipe!
