ABS sensor for BX GTi

Post by mudinureye »

Another question for you all.
Where would be the best place to start looking for an ABS sensor for a 19 GTi?
I am determined to bring this car back up to scratch!!

Under the wheel arch. (Sorry, couldn't resist it.)
GSF car parts list them under part numbers N64504 (front) and N64506 (rear)

Will be bolted into the actual hub with a lead going into so should be quite easy to spot with the wheel off

I worded that wrong, but, then again, I am Irish.
I know where it is, problem is, I need a new one.
What a muppet I am.

Many sensors in fact are repairable as the lead fails. Examine the lead for any damage which may give a clue where the break is, cut the lead and see if you have a circuit between the centre core and the screen. On mine for some reason the outer insulation had become porous and allowed the screen to corrode. I found sound cable and soldered in co-ax cable with a flexible core.
Incidentally you probably won't be able to get the rear ones out without damaging them. I repaired both of mine in situ and one is still working more than 5 years later.

Thanks all. I am going to spend the weekend working on the car, see if I can put it back on the road. I am planning a trip to France in September and would rather take the Bx with me than the other car. I thought I might get it serviced while there. Anybody had any experience of this? Surely the French would be more au fait?
