Squeal On Startup,,

Unread post by Meganic »

Hi, I have a Renault Megane and when I start it up there's an awful squeal,,
I've changed all belts except the timing belt, this appears to be ok,, the other belts are fine now too,,
If I drive it at night the squeal can happen randomly too!
Is it possibly the alternator?

Long shot but could be a clutch plate squeal. How's the clutch? have you lost any oil recently? Any driffernce it driving when the noise happens?

Have done a recent oil change, not lost any since,, Gearbox oil is fine too!
Driving doesn't appear to be any different,,,
How do I check if it's the clutch plate?
On the rare occasion changing gear has sometimes been a problem, but not recently, well not since the squealing,,,
:D

If the clutch is squeeling it's because its either up for a change or its got oil on to it. The pressure plate and drive plate become stuck together momentarialy and produce this squeal. Only way to check is by gearbox and clutch removal. Other thing is the belts you have replaced may need a re-tension as they strech slightly after fitting and become a little lose. Just double check befor you carry on. May only be little bit on the adjustment.

During the day it's only on start up but when I drive at night and release the clutch when changing gear it does a wee squeal every so often,,
It's kinda sounding more like the clutch with each post,,
The belts do seem to be fine, been changed twice and checked regularly enough, fear of them flying off anall that,, will have another check today though, to be sure.
Thanks for your help Stuart :)
