Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has come across a problem when replacing the washer pump. My car is a 98 phase 2 306.
The jets stopped working and after checking the pump had expired. I replaced the pump and the front jets are working again but the rear isn’t working. So I swapped the two pipes on the pump around and the rear washer switch was working the front jets but the front switch didn’t run the rear jets.
Then I pulled the pipe off the rear jets in the boot and tried sucking. I thought there might have been an air lock in the pipe. But all I got was a mouthful of screen wash [xx(] then I got some water out of it but I almost collapsed my eardrums sucking on the pipe.
The rear washer was working but it’s been a while since I had used it. Any advice would be gratefully accepted.
Thanks
Chris

I had a similar problem on the girlfriends car, the rear washer hadn't been used for a while and the screen wash that was in the pipes seemed to turn to jelly.
I just had to trace the water pipe from the pump to the rear jet and clean it out.
Have you tried using the pump with the pipe disconnected from the rear washer jet?
As I know that on my 306 the jets are prone to blocking up especially if you let the washer bottle water level get too low or run out.

Hi, thank you for your reply.
The pump is pushing the water down the rear pipe and the pipe is clear but the rear washer mechanism is blocked. It’s the type with two jets at the base of the wiper arm. I have tried to unblock it with a straightened paper clip but it won’t clear.
I have put some bleach into the top of the wiper arm in the hope that it will clear what ever is blocking the pipe. There is a 90 degree bend just after where the washer pipe is attached and I think that’s where the blockage is.

I've lost count of the number of threads that I've replied to about broken 306 rear wash/wipes! I had the same problem on my old 306 and ended up replacing the whole wiper motor assembly which I picked up from eBay for about £15.
Alternatively you might try some limescale removers (like you use in kettles) in case its scaled up. Other than that it's a lot of puggling and perseverence.

Some type of membrane or filter would make sense, I have pushed some wire down through the hole from the outside and found an obstruction. This can’t be the 90 degree bend at the bottom of the pipe since that would mean that it was clear.
A limescale remover may have some effect, but I have the feeling that it may have rusted. Since there was a fair bit of rust around the top of the pipe when I flipped up the end cap on the wiper arm.
I would be tempted to use an electric drill on it but the hole on the outside is very small and the blockage is a long way down the pipe. It looks like the only solution is to replace whole unit but money is a bit tight at the moment and I’ve just paid for a new pump. Plus to be honest the rear washer wasn’t very effective and I think I can live without ...... at least until I can find another job.
Thanks

Fixed it [:)] .... I got a bit more forceful with my chosen implement, a bicycle brake cable (which you can get for under a quid in wilko). Prodding down the hole from the outside the car there was a pop and it cleared. But I would recommend either taking the washer pipe off the other end or wearing old clothes, because I was covered in dirty water. [V] Likely I was on the way back home from a job interview not the other way around.
I did think about having a look at the lock on the boot since the key has never been able to open it .... but I think I’ll quit while I’m ahead and just hope that the remote locking doesn’t go on the blink again. [:D]
Thanks everyone ….
