Does not really seem to matter, I lightly grease the new one and get the whole bracket and bush in an engineers vice and squeeze, I have to mess about a little to make sure its going in square but once its half of the way in bobs your uncle, to finish I move the edge into the vice jaws to get the last bit in without squeezing the central tube.

Put it in the deepfreeze for several hours. I did mine on the BX TD in the car and had no problem in fitting the new one when it was still very cold. I put a dab of grease round the edge, chose the edge with the better lead in and was able to tap it into place with a hammer and probably some wood.
Mind you I did have a good look at my beans when I ate my breakfast that morning!

put the alloy mount in the oven to expand it a little bit and the rubber in the freezer to contract a little bit should fit easy after that
