Xantia HDI throttle pedal

My 2000 Xantia HDI has a very heavy throttle pedal. I have disconnected it from the potensiometer to ensure that the problem is not the cable itself. The potensiometer seems to have a very heavy spring, has anyone dismantled one of these? Is there any way to adjust the spring?
