V6 Espace Starting problem when left for a week

Unread post by sunnysussex »

I hope someone can help me cos it is driving me nuts!!.
I've got a 92 Espace MKII shape, V6 2.9Lt Petrol, Manual Box.
If it is used everyday then it starts fine. However, if we leave it for about 3 days or more then it won't start. It will turn over but it finds it hard to fire. Sometimes it will catch on a cylinder and then I can pump the accelerator to try and get it to go (by this time it gets flooded and sounds like its only firing on a couple of cylinders, but eventually clears)
The Garage changed the Distributor Cap and said that should cure it but it hasn't.
Any Ideas of what could be up with it. Would changing the plugs be any benifit ?

If it's still on the original plug leads, then they're over due a change.
Pop the plugs out for a look. Are they gapped correctly and clean?

try a carrier back and elastic band over the distributer, if condensation is building up on there, that'd explain whey dealer cleaned it. No guarentees though.
Personally I'd change the plugs, leads and distributor / rotor arm as a matter of service anyway.
WARNING.. Dizzy / rotor arm, dear as f00k on Renault V6's :@
