Laguna ignition

I have a '98 Laguna 2.0 RT, which has developed a curious problem. While driving it occasionaly gives the symptom of hunting or a misfire, typically slowing down in traffic and when ready to accelerate will almost die, or while idling, is very irregular, have checked fuel filter (clean) and changed plug leads, symptom still exists. Any ideas, what it could be???

I had an irregular idle suddenly appear on my 2L 95 RT , I took off the idle control valve and cleaned it out with carb cleaner , its been perfect ever since , worth a try . Haynes manual should show you where it is .
