Wing Mirror 'control'?

Just a quickie. I realised tonight on the way home that when I need to adjust my mirrors I always end up lowering the windows and pushing them into position. Those little round twisty knob things on the inside of the doors don't have much effect, no matter how much I twist and turn them. I get a slight 'twitch' on the mirror but that's it. Are these buttons supposed to be so uselesss or is there anything I can do to them? Your thoughts as always are much appreciated. Tony

Take mirror glass out (clip along top edge) and soak mechanism behind mirror in wd40 whilst moving it about

I just squirted a load in the gap at the top without taking the glass out. Works fine.
