Xantia rear window rattle

There is an intensely irritating, but not very loud, buzzy rattle from around the back of the nearside door ('97 Activa). It stops if I lower the (electric) window just a tiny bit.
I've tried stuffing bits of folded paper in various places around the window with no success.
Any suggestions?

It may be due to one of the bolts securing the winder mechanism coming loose. Remove the door trim panel to gain access.
