Xsara ser.2 rumbling noise on right front end

Post by Juan M. »

Hi. I'm new here and I need your advise guys, please. My Xsara ser.2(right hand drive) has done only 40K and I've been hearing some noise on the right front end. I'm a careful driver and my car has never been driven hard nor had been driven into potholes. The noise is not a clunk but more a rumble. At first I thought it could be my tyres but just changed them to new ones and noise is still there. The noise comes only when I turn right on roundabout, corner, or u-turn. No noise when going straight nor left. No noise when car is stationary and steering is turned on both ends, so assume it's not the power steering assembly. Noise is also louder on coarse/uneven roads. My Xsara is out of warranty and dealer in my area has closed shop. Other dealers are in major re-org hence very unhelpful and even suggested just to take my car to other suspension specialists. I checked my drop links, seems to be ok. Grabbed them and pulled, they are firm. Any other idea what's making the noise? Any advice will be highly appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds like N/S front wheel bearing. are you sure noise is coming from O/S?

Thanks for the replies. I should also mention my Xsara is the 1.6 Auto. And also, listening to it well, the noise seems like something metal to metal rubbing, like something need to be greased? Hope this helps but I'll have the wheel bearings checked.

Sorry about the O/S - N/S thing, forgetting this is international! Wheel bearing doesn't usually sound like metal to metal contact, more of a tram like whine. The side that has the problem will usually make more noise as the load on it increases, e.g. if you turn to the right the weight is thrown onto the left wheel, if the noise increases it will be the left bearing and vice versa.
