Nurburgring lap record

Post by np »

I know this may seem a bit childish, but, does anyone know the offical lap record for a road car at the Nurburgring?
I now have GT4 on the Playstation, totally hooked on it,hence lack of posts[:D].The full 13 odd mile circuit is on there.Just wanted the record time as a benchmark[:I][:o)][:D].Currently laping about 9 mins.
Cant find anything offical on the net.
Silly post i spose, but i dont know untill i ask.
Thanks(a very happy 30 y/o[:I])[:)]

Jeremy Clarkson managed just under 10 minutes in a diesel Jaguar (2.7 litre S type) and some racing instructor managed a time something like 9:20 with the same car.
The Nissan Skyline was the first production car to lap in under 8 minutes...

A bit of Googling came up with this page.

Bellof was the bravest driver of the lot, it is often said. That he tamed the Nordschleife is not a surprise. The third fastest lap was recorded for the camera by Porsche. Driver, Derek Bell, Porsche's most successful driver. Now that's a movie I'd like to see!

Tom, the Derek Bell lap is on a video called ticket to ride that you used to be able to get on amazon, used to have it but got chewed up years ago.

born2die, i just downloaded and watched the bike nurburgring video.
Doesnt look that scary to me, to be honest those guys are not really trying that hard, they are obviously quick road riders with experiance of the track. A really quick road rider or racer would be moving a lot quicker and faffing about a lot less.
Its a good vid :-)

sorry my fault I was on about a vid on my computer here I cant remember where I got it from it shows a bike on the back straight at 211 and some of the corneres lean angle etc are just lunacy. A lot like church corner on the IOM was much better before they put padding on the wall.
