1999 T Reg Laguna key not working C/L

HI,
My key stopped activating the C/L recently so I got a new pair of 2016 batteries. But these didn't effect anything.
I am now having to use the spare key.
The original key still works in the ignition so the transponder bit must be okay.
I just wondered whether the old key somehow needs to be re-programmed or re-trained. Does anybody know if there is a procedure ?

I've just bought a '98 laguna esate with a similar problem, the key fob worked intermittantly. The garage had already diagnosed the problem and it needed a new remote fob (which had to be ordered from france on a 3 week wait[V])

Forgot to mention, from what I could see through the doorway at the garage the key can be programmed on the car but it took 2 guys sitting in the car to do it[?]
