Buying a Clio DCI 1.5

Unread post by ifonly »

Hi all,
My son is looking to buy a Clio 1.5DCI, can anybody recommend or give a good reason not to buy one.
Also I belive there are three different engines, 65hp, 80hp and the 100hp, how do we tell which engine is in the cars we look at? is it model related or age related or something else?
Many Thanks

[:D]Hi, I have the Dci80 and I love it - it's my first diesel (I'm an ex-GTI/Hot hatch convert!)It never dips below 57MPG and thats mixed urban/dual carriageway enthusiastic driving!! For the money the spec available is unbeatable. Regarding the output, the Dci badge on the door is a clue....
Chrome dci=65bhp, Chrome "dc" but with a blue "i" is the 80bhp and I understand the 100bhp has the "ci" in blue although the 100bhp is the latest version so "04" plate on. Plenty to choose from so take your time. Must have history + ensure plenty of oil changes 18,000 mile recommended services is just too long. ENJOY

Or you could buy a 80 bhp model & get it tuned to 100+bhp.Plenty about tuning on the forum.
We had a 206 HDI 70 & a Clio DCI 80bhp when we all went to Spain last year. The 80bhp Clio was much faster than the 206[:(!].Couldn`t keep up with my sister at all in my 206[:I].Still here about it today![:D]
Both did do an easy 50 mpg though, even driving the way we did & with the A/C on.

[:D]I looked into chip tuning & tuning boxes but there seems to be issues with over fuelling (plenty black smoke[:(]) and also talk of clutch slip due to increases in torque, tread carefully.
I must say I have a K&N panel air filter and the car does "pick up" quicker than before + running on Shell Diesel Extra or BP Ultimate makes a huge difference also instead of nasty supermarket fuel. My Clio Dci80 runs MUCH quieter and practically no smoke on acceleration using Shell.[:D][}:)]
