Hydraflush and brake bleeding?

Post by macaroni »

Hi,
I intend to Hydraflush my Activa this weekend and want to know whether is worth my while to bleed the brakes with the Hydraflush in or should I wait until I add the fresh LHM?
Cheers,
Antony

I would bleed the brakes with the Hydraflush and then again with fresh LHM. You have nothing to lose, it cleans up the system...and it is a guarantee of more effective braking.

Rostami,
you have the perfect Activa - an HDi version. If you ever want to swap for a powerful petrol turbo version, I am willing!
Message sent Andy, but you may want to post here as there may be a few takers for that info.

Well Marconi, I dont know if you have ever had the pleasure of driving one...
I know that it is no match for the V6 3.0 version, but the car is really a very exciting car to drive. I really enjoy the car, specially because it took me many years of hard savings to by it. Sometimes I even forget its a diesel car :P The only major problem is it being a 8 valve SOHC. But one just can want it all I guess!!!

Ok well the difference is you have to push on each of the Activa rams to get the extra fluid out. This is according to the Citroen manual update released in 1996 (when the active was released). How this may seem inconsequential but there is enough fluid in these rams to turn the flush fluid green again! When I completely drained my system it took over 6L of fluid to re-fill!
The only way I can see to drain the rams completely is to actually unbolt one end of it and then move it other wise your going to have to fight against the ARB!
When I do it again I will post on ActivaNet and then add pictures and a method to the web site.

Argh I knew I should have kept my 406...oh well, too late now. I am not too keen on unbolting the rams, having said that, the front one has just been replaced so shouldn't be too problematic.
6l of fluid?? Blimey, no wonder the car weighs so much.
Thanks for the info Andy, I am beginning to dread Saturday morning now.

It will be fine, if you're going to be under there any way after you have compressed each ram, remove the return hose and attach it to an air line and blow it back this will make sure that the lines are free of gunk which is what causes the rams to leek if you don’t have an air line the only thing I can think of is to use a normal foot/hand pump.
BTW I got a tunit for the 2.1 I've still not got the engine running normally but once I do its going strait on.

I have just been to the dealer (Cit, not drug!) and had a word with a technician who told me how they drain the activa rams, he claimed there is a bleed nipple on top of the rear activa sphere, which you undo and put a pipe on, then wiggle the front activa link to move the system and push the fluid back to the reservoir. Have you heard of that method?
If I were to remove the rams as you suggest, is there anything special to do to release the pressure in the activa system? I thought it was separate from the main hydraulics.
How much was your tunit? There is quite a bit of wire cutting an soldering to do, as far as I remember. Good results though.
Are you going to bring this car to FCS Andy?

deff coming the FCS now got my 2 tickets orderd via vanny but the 2.1 wont be finnished in time for it i still have to get citroen to re-program the ecu and securety system!
we will be there in the wifes taty red activa and i hope my cousin chris will be there in his blue Activa, should FDV be reading this we now have a stand so if you book tickets make sure you tell them your an activanet member and wether your bringing your (Si's) car.
as for the bleed nipple god that would be usefull! i will have a look asap but to be honest you will be under your car befor I get to mine. :)
I managed to pick up the tunit for £75 which was a steel for a seccond hand one, one of my neighbours has a roling road (he owns a company that do race tuning) so i will be getting it set up on there :)
