Xantia brake caliper change

Post by basil »

Hallo,
I am going to change one of my front brake calipers(I have an lhm leak from behind the rubber boot).Am I right in thinking that the brake cicuit will not have any pressure in it[?]I don't want a high pressure lhm shower
[:(]
Is the brake hose a commen size[?](If I need to change this as well)
Thanks

As long as no one steps on the brakes when you have the caliper off you should stay quite clean... (If not the car would brake 'by itself')
Don't know about the hose though, over here you can get it quite easily in an auto-shop

If it is passing fluid past the piston it might be cheaper/easier to get a new seal.

It will be a special brake hose to withstand the LHM, so make sure you get the right one. Since you have to remove the caliper to change the brake pads, a caliper change on a Xantia should be easy. There is a repair kit availble for the Xantia calipers, which should contain the approriate seal to fix your problem.

Where can I get a repair kit from? I have looked on gsf but could not see any.
Are any other models (zx,xm,bx) the same? Mine is a bendix type 95 xantia (266mm disc I think??)
Thanks

If the LHM leaks out behind the rubber boot over the handbrake mechnism, there's no chance to repair the caliper. This usually happens, when someone tries to push back the brake cylinder without turning it. Repairing a brake caliper with handbrake mechanism is not as easy as repairing a "normal" caliper. Fitting a new one is highly recommended.

Thanks for the replies the lhm leak is from the rubber boot so it looks like replacement rather than repair.
