Airbag light intermittent

Post by pumbaah »

Dear all,
my 406SV seems to have that occasional issue which is getting on my nerves when u drive along and the blinking light.........
diagnostics done at the authorised dealer, confirmed that it is not the airbag but the seatbelt pretensioner connection failure... which in this case could be a connector loose or something...
those fellas in the workshop said something bout changing parts...????
if its just a connection, i might as well find it and tighten it...right?
would anyone know where the connection for that is?? could it be any of the bunch of cables underneath the seat, mine is an electric seats, according to the electrical diagram in the haynes manual there is such termination but does not show where....
any help/inputs are appreciated...
thank you.

Hi
You want the ORANGE connections under BOTH front seats for the pretensioners.
Thats after the battery has been disconnected for at least 10 minutes.

This usually a very well known problem as the connector are under the passenger seat and tend to be easily disturbed. Especially when you have people in the back.

I have just sorted out this problem on my 1998 306 DTurbo by removing the drivers seat (battery disconnected!!!) and putting a very light coating of solder on the "male" pins on the orange conector to make the fit a bit tighter.
No annoying light now!

Hi All,
I too suffer from the intermittent flashing airbag light on my 306 XSi, and suspect that this is due to the connector under the seat.
I am going to have a go tomorrow, but wanted to know if there was any special precautions when reconnecting the battery - vaugely remember someone mentioning imobiliser / alarm problems?
My stereo should be ok as its aftermarket and has no PIN protection.
Thanks,

I only had to reset the clock and retune the stereo after I reconnected my battery, but my 306 is only fitted with the transponder imobiliser. Not sure about the alarm.

Many thanks for the quick reply.
Just found an older thread that mentions shutting down the alarm system - my alarm is switched on by the Deadlock button on the remote (its a Phase 2 R(98) Reg XSI) - does "shutting down the alarm" just mean not having it active when disconnecting the battery?

I'm not entierly sure.
I have heard that some alarms have a key switch on the siren box under the bonnet that is used to disarm or turn the alarm system off.
