Replacing just one C5 sphere?

Unread post by bencowell »

The C5 has just come back from the dealer after having a rear strut replaced.
Both spheres were replaced about 2 years ago as part of a sound reducing kit, one sphere was replaced this time, but like shock absorbers and brakes, should both be done at the same time?
Cheers

My understanding of the replacement of spheres is that they are pressure tested on removal - if the pressure is acceptable then that sphere can continue to be used - however I do stand to be correced here!
I personally would feel happier with two spheres replaced at the same time with the same gas pressure not just for the balance of the car / suspension but also for wear as one will probably show signs of wear sooner than the other.
This is always assuming your dealer did not repressurise the other sphere.
If I were you I would question the service department as to what the sphere presures were and why they only replaced one.

Thanks,
I doubt the other one was removed, as work was only being done on one side of the car.

I understand that genuine Xantia spheres can't be repressurised either.
My dealer hasn't got the equipment to pressure test spheres.

News to me. All the Xantia spheres I've seen have filler plugs and can therefore be regassed. C5 spheres don't have a filler plug and have some kind of hermetical seal instead...
