Installing cruise control on a C5 - DIY

Post by 406 V6 »

Fellas:
First of all, i want to thank everyone who helped me out with my doubts.
So, with no further adue, here's the pictures with some explanations.
This is the cruise control stalk, part number 6239NK (i bought mine at Pug, €2 euros cheaper plus 10% discount!) for €40

Step 1: locate the steering wheel cover bolts and remove them, along with the lower cover.

Step 2: locate the plug for the stalk (see how it has a small plastic cover).

The plastic plug cover:

Showing the guts:

Note for the small upright PCB, which interfaces to the CC stalk.
Step 3: Getting it into place gently.

Here it is!

A close-up:

Step 4: Cutting an opening on the lower steering wheel cover. See how there is a groove already marked in the plastic.

Preparing for surgery:

Ready after filing and sanding, plus using the hot knife for smoothing the edges:

Step 5: Putting it back again.

Can you tell it from a factory fitting[:D]?

All there's left to do is to take it to Citroën and tell Lexia to activate the function on the BSI. Simple!
Fortunatelly, i know a guy who knows another one inside Citroën who'll do it for me, though not very happy... -->look at my worrying face[8D]
Once more, thank you all!

Francisco, excelent pratical guide! Well done!
Just one question: What happened to the radio controls available on the wheel of the Xantia?! Your C5 seems not to have those buttons...

Thats very good work- Much better than my attempt at it in my Dyane a few years ago!! My DIY cruise in that consisted of tecknic lego, elastic bands, a pully and a bit of string!! One motor to clamp the string that went in the opposite direction from the carb that the accelerator cable goes and another low geared unit wired up to a two way switch that gently inceased or decreased the throttle opening. It was quite a novelty having a crude form of cruise control in a Dyane- Think it scared a lot of people though!!

T-Bird, it seems that the Xantiae didn't come with this stalk, vene the late models...Hmmmm
It happens that this stalk is common to the late 406, 307 and 407 series too...
Have a look on the owner's manual for the picture of it and post here...

As you can see here, the Xantia wheel has 8 buttons (4 on each side) to control the radio and CD box.

I suddenly realised I had to use my hat as a moderator [:(!]
Do NOT submit pictures - or like in this eaxample - a series of pictures - that takes ages to download for our standard sound modem users.

Quite right what Anders says.
There's now also a maximum image size of 500 x 375 on the forum too.
