Post by wonderd »

When i accelerate gently then everything is ok, but when i push the pedal too hard, the car is choking, why is that?

I have the exact same problem on my ZX, as soon as you accelerate the engine holds back for a couple of seconds and then clears, have you noticed this happens more in the wet?

Sounds ignition related, last time I had this problem it turned out the HT leads were old and shorting out. A good service later, (plugs, HT leads etc) normal service was resumed!

I've replaced plugs with the bosch super 4's and got the bosch leads to go with them, the coil pack on mine has always been a suspect. Does the 1.6 engine have a pack or a normal coil?
I've even taken the injector out to inspect it

It happens evry time, no matter if it's wet or dry, cool or hot.
I thought that it might be the injectors but the car accelerates good if i press lightly on the gas and don't try to accelerate too fast.
maybe it sucks too much air at the moment of accelerating?
could it be a faulty sensor??

Odd... my 306 XSi is sometimes like that, a little sluggish at low RPM's and it prefers a smooth acceleration rather than a "flooring".
I am going to change the sparks this weekend and see if this helps!

good plan, go for the super 4's as well, they dont cost a lot more than the others and they do give a noticable difference with the smoothness of acceleration
