Anyone any idea what may be causing what can only be described as "PINKING" as in a petrol engine. Occurs on acceleration but only moderate acceleration. If it does it increasing power gets rid of it. Strangely doesnt do it when labouring or under load. Occurs mainly around 3 3 and a half thousand revs.
Tried different fuels no difference.
Car is 12 months old 24000 miles performance and mpg excellent but bugs me.
under warranty but reluctant to hand it to a dealer.

[8D]Hi,I have a Dci80 with a K&N filter and have the same "pinking".(It did it before the K&N also) I've read various suggestions but nothing I've taken on board.....However I've just had an oil change using Shell Helix semi synthetic and the "tinkle" has almost gone on the partial throttle + the car runs happier and feels perkier too.I've just turned 19k.
Although I would be interested in any other ideas.....??
Maybe a Clio thing??

Pinking in diesel terms is incorrect fuel timing.
A bloke I work with has a new Nissan X-trail dCI ( Nissan are owned by Renault and now share engines ). His car is due to go in dock to have its fueling/ecu checked out due to mid-range pinking.
My guess is that the ecu is iffy or at least something that tells the ecu what position the engine is in i.e. TDC sensor or injection lift sensor
