Xantia Wet Rear Passenger Footwell
Hello. The Footwell in the rear passenger seat behind the driver keeps getting wet on my 2000 Xantia Estate. I'm pretty sure its not down to water getting in through the door or rear door. The Boot carpet is dry. Could it be something to do with the rear wash water hose? Is this easy to get to to check?

The front footwell is dry both passenger and driver. Just the rear passenger well, behind the driver is wet. Water appears to be clean. Will do some more investigations this weekend. I have a feeling it may be the washer hose. It doesn't get worse after rain, so maybe it's me when I clean the rear window with the washer, so the dog can enjoy the view.

Hello julianashcroft, I have the same problem for the right side rear footwell. The car is a 93 Xantia TD hatch. Rear footwell collects a lot of water whenever it rains heavily or when driving in heavy rain. It is not from the rear washer, mine does not work! Sometimes the felt soundproofing in the boot gets wet but not as often as the footwell. I cannot find the source! My son also has a Xantia - same problem!!!

My estate also fills the rear footwell with water. Upon investigation although the boot carpit is dry, if I lift it, it is sodden. I experimented by pouring water down the outside of the rear window and noticed that the water enters through the window sill at the botton near the rear wiper, runs down the inside of the boot and under the rear carpet, then fills up the footwell. The carpet still looks dry but underneath is a different story!!!
Have tried various sealents around the seal although it still lets some water in. Also explains why my rear boot lock is corroded.

Good discussion of the subject here - if you need more info I suggest you search.

<font color="blue"><font face="Comic Sans MS"><font size="2"><b>Hi All,
That door membrane is the cause of nearly all water ingress in a lot of different makes/models of cars. The water will run down the outside glass, down to the bottom, finding it`s way across the innards and comes out on the wrong side of door seal,(between the door and door panel) dripping it`s way into footwell.
People taking door panels off and not bothering to put membrane on properly= wet floors.
I use glue from an aerosol, like a carpet glue, 3M do one, and there`s not much that will get away from that stuff.
Hope this helps
