AX fuel gauge not working.

hello, my GF's 93 1.0 AX has a faulty fuel gauge. Namely its reading empty all the time.
What areas should I be checking? Gonna remove the sender and earth the gauge to see if thats at fault, but after that dont know where to look!
any help would be great.

Mine is the same occasionally, try whacking the top of the instrument binnacle.
Failing that, lift the back seat cushion to gain access to the tank.

My AX`s gauge is always on full but at least the low fuel warning light works so i have never bothered to fix it

From what I know nobody's AX fuel gauge works properly!
Mine like many others spends an age going down do a 1/4 of a tank and then drops right down so the warning light comes on ...

HA! Oh well!! It was always erratic - it doesn't seem to have a dampner circuit on it like a car I have which stops it from going to full to empty whilst flying round corners.
I ve already given the dash a whack as that solved the problem of no dash lights once!! Will have a look at the tank then.

i replaced the float on mine lots of fun have a bucket ready so any fuel in the float doesn't go all over the car. and tap around the fixing collar equally at the three points.
