Brake pedal

Post by modi »

I have changed the front brake pads and disks recently but the brake pedal still has a space (it feels loose) so when i apply the brakes i find it halp applied already and that doesn't give a good feeling of braking, any ideas?? thanks

Did you bleed the brakes to get the air out of the pipes after you fitted your new pads?

Your Xantia has a fully powered braking system as used by Citroen for many years. On a normal system you pump the fluid in the syetem when you operate the brakes but on the xantia you simply open a valve. This means that the engine does all the work and the pedal will feel exactly the same even if you have no fluid at all in the system.
On the Xantia Citroen have attempted to make it feel more like a conventional system (ie not sharp like a BX or DS can be) by simply putting a spring between the valve and the pedal.
There have been a number of postings on this subject recently including some excellent photos and I suggest you search this site for them.
