Removing Xantia steering wheel

Post by watt111 »

I have the airbag version. Haynes manual says "carefully prise centre pad from the steering wheel" but I find I can't remove it.
Does anyone know, is the centre pad secured by the T30 screws secreted in the back of the steering wheel?

yes it is, and you need to undo the 21mm nut when you have got the bag/center off. then put the nut back on so that when you pull the stearing wheel away you dont break the cables at the top of the column. then once the wheel is off its splines you can remove the 21mm nut and undo the cables.

also as its an airbag make sure the batery is disconected and that you have left the car to stand for 1/2 and hour so that there is no chance of the bag going off.

Much appreciate your brilliant replies folks. I'm off to try and undo these two Torx 30 screws in the back of the steering wheel. Your advice saved me from pulling off centre pad by brute force and possibly getting punched in the face by the airbag!
I have disconnected the battery!
