172 brake pads question

hi, would somebody know if mk1 & mk2 172 brake pads are the same? i rang demontweeks and motorsportworld to ask about ferodo ds2500 front pads and was told i had a choice of 2 (minimal cost difference) one pad was "kidney" shaped the other had a definative edge on it, neither shop could tell me which was which? thanks

Can't you see the caliper through the alloy. The pad with the edge should be quite visible as it's used on some cars as a retaining lug. Apart from that take the alloy off and have a look, write down any part numbers or ref guide numbers.
