C5 Radio/Fuses

Unread post by davebrooks »

Hi Everyone,
I have fitted an aftermarket radio and amp to my Citroen C5 SX 2.2 HDI.
I have a couple of problems:-
1. I am having trouble finding a place in the fuse box in the glove compartment
to run a 12V wire from. There is a row of fuses at the top of the fuse box which
would be ideal but it has no power. Does anyone know why it is unpowered ?
The book says they are for things like Heated Seats which I don't have, so maybe
the row of fuses is switched off because I don't have any of the options.
All the other places are full.
2. I have found that if I turn off the car, the radio loses all its settings. I
take it this is because the standard radio does not need power all the time but
my new one does to maintain its settings. I could run a wire from the fuse box
but I am back to the first problem.....
Anyone know anything about the fuse box ?..... Thanks very much.

I have installed a JVC unit along with a subwoofer amp.
You must find the 2 12V wires. Get yourself a multimeter and just sit a bit, quietly inside the car. Wait until you hear several clicks on the car and check wich of the wire is still 12V. Just cut the 2 wires and connect them the other way around.
As an example:
Suppose you found that the green and blue wire are at 12V. Cut them and rewire blue with green and green with blue. (after this i suppose you have no need to wait for the car to click[:S])
I have run a direct connection to the battery, with a fuse next to it.
I ran it along the right side of the car, inside the mud gurad inside the wheel arch, then into the black plastic under the doors.
I then made a small hole on the rubber that sits on the bottom of the spare wheel housing to get it inside the car. My amp sits on the right of the boot.
Hope i've been of any help...
