The gear lever has suddenly (and without warning) become very heavy. My wife described it as hunting for gears through treacle!
The lever itself appears OK and I've checked the linkages. Haven't lost any gearbox oil, and the clutch appears to operating as it should.
The car was fine on Friday but the problem was there when I used the car from cold on Saturday, and it hasn't altered.
Any suggestions gratefully received.

Does this sound familiar - OK I know its a Xantia but I imagine there are similarities.

Thanks for the reply.
Managed to scrounge the use of a pit today, as opposed to using axle stands. This allowed for a better inspection and showed the problem to be the ball joint at the end of the rod right up behind the steering rack. Lubed it up and now have a happy(ish) wife again!
