Bike carrier on a Xantia 1.9 TD

I just went to but a bike rack for the back of my Xantia and the instructions said Do not use on Xantia 93-on.
Can anyone tell me why???

What make and type of bike rack is it. I've used a bike rack on mine since it was new. Mine's the type that slots into a fitting attached to a tow bar.

The rear hatch is made of plastic.
