Laguna Knocking when wheels centred

Unread post by MrMartyn »

Hi all, please help...
I have a 1999 Laguna, when turning the wheels at a standstill there is a knocking noise coming from what seems to be left strut, I've had it in the garage today and they replaced a drop link but car still makes this noise when wheels are turned from left to right when car is stationary (noise only heard as wheels pass being centred). Now the garage is telling me to replace both the strut top mountings, does this sound a good idea for this problem?
Cheers.

it is common for the strut top mountings to split and cause a knock.but the knocking sounds like its the strut top cone bearings that sit under the top mountings.
does it sound like the coil springs "TWANG" when the steering is moved left to right?
if so the bearing are seized!

Hi, I wouldn't say it sounds like a twang, like I say seems more of a knocking type noise, having a look at the car yesterday I watched the left wheel turning and could see the strut jump just a little when hearing the noise if that's any help? also as it made this noise when feeling the tyre could feel like a pulse coming through it.
Cheers

Hi , cheers for the advice so far. When watching the car turning the noise is coming from left strut and when it makes the noise I can see the strut jump not much but it does jump. I've spoken to the garage again who are advising they will strip the strut and grease it as there is a bearing there also, does this make any sense greasing it?
Cheers.
