LIGHT PRESSURE

Post by ACTIVE8 »

The seller in this auction has described the car as a light pressure turbo.

Is this the correct description of a T.D. Xantia?

Yes it is this model replaced the non-turbo one, but as emissions equipment was fitted a 'Light pressure turbo' was fitted to overcome the loss of power.

...and it still managed to produce less power than the old 1.9D !
(68 bhp I think, as opposed 70 for the atmo 1.9)
Under the bonnet its easy to distinguish the LPT 1.9SD version from the 1.9TD by the lack of intercooler & pipework.

In one sense yes it is 'light pressure' but on Xantias the intercooler is in front of the radiator.

..also the LPT is badged "1.9SD" down the side of the car, rather than "Turbo D".
I notice that one on ebay went for £1495, I wonder if the winning bidder actually knows what the light pressure turbo version is?! To me they were the worst of both worlds, extra complexity of a turbo without any performance benefit, and not even much more economical than the 92 bhp Turbo D either!

O.K. if I get a T.D. it certainly will not be that model.
The one that most appeals is the H.D.I. [:D]
If I can find one !

The Xantia is a big heavy car to be struggling with only 68 bhp. I find my 92bhp TD ok - just, but I wouldn't say no to an HDi 110. The 110 does seem difficult to find though, and quite a few people selling HDi Xantias often don't put what engine version it is in the ad.

the light pressure ones were more popular in peugeots.... my brother has a light pressure 306...it is better at pulling away than a normal diesel (or even a TD) but has no power mid or upper range....totally pointless
