Advice on Renault laguna purchase

Hi everyone,
looking for abit of advice here. Im going to change my car and i am hoping to get a renault laguna (petrol) for around £3000 year 2000 if possible.
Im unsure about engine size. Either 1.6 or 1.8.
how does the laguna perform on a 1.6 engine size, or do i need the 1.8 engine for that size of car.
Also could someone please advise on what Insurance group that this car falls into

the insurance groups are:1.6=7, and 1.8=9.
do you intend to buy the phase 1 or 2 model?

Not really sure here on phase 1 or 2.
its all down to cost really . the newer model the better

sorry i meant phase 2 or three, phase 3 is the one that has key less entry etc.

my main concern is for the engine size.
I currently have a 1.9td citoen advantage, and its got that extra littlebit of power when you need it.
Is the laguna a car that really needs a 1.8 engine for good motorway driving ?
because i was concerned that the 1.6 would be sluggish for a car that size

I have a 1.8 Laguna and it is incredibly under powered (94 BHP to be precise). Go for a 2 litre!!

Bwellard laguna must be an early 8 valve model if it is 94 bhp.Mine is a 1999 model 1800 16 valve and has 123 bhp.Ok,it needs to be revved a bit,but it will rev to 7000rpm before the limiter comes in,and i find it surprisingly quick.The 2 litre 16 valve has more torque for the hills,wereas the 18 has to drop a gear to keep the revs up.avoid the 16.i tried one and found it ran out of puff on the hills but was ok on the motorway.hope this helps.
