Xantia rear suspension Help needed
I have a P reg Xantia and am experiencing major problems
with the rear suspension "going down"
My local garage has checked the spheres and they are fine, however a "clip" keeps coming out.
Can anyone tell me why this is happening and how to cure and if possible the cost.
Thanks

Extremely normal! there are at least two common problems on the xantia that will keep on reoccuring if only the symptom is fixed and not the cause.
No.1 is the clutch cable clip - which really only breaks when the clutch is so heavy that it obviously needs replacing
and No.2 is the plastic clip on the rear suspension height correcter which often parts due to the metal linkage having rusted up.
If you don't fix the cause, you'll never get rid of the symptoms permanently!

Citroen PR-net at its best, I'd recomend any one who really wants to know how a Citrone comes apart gets access to it.

I have just emerged from under my xantia after replacing these parts.
It was clear once I'd removed the old plastic link that it was infact the steel ball shaped end of the roll-bar clamp that had rusted away and was at least 1mm undersize. The new plastic link alone would not have solved the problem so I had to buy the clamp too (item 3 in the above mentioned image)
Interestingly the ball joint on the HC mechanism was in perfect condition, this one was zinc plated but the clamp one was just painted black - hence its relatively short life.

The garage finally traced the problem. It appears that the "white socket " (Valve)was badly worn giving a weak connection when the clip was attached. The total cost including the several times the clip was re inserted came to £140.00 inc vat. Not a bad bad deal.
Car is now running fine.
Thanks to the guys who responded.
