306 alarm siren

when i got my 306, the siren was turned off by the key, i dont have one to turn it back on with, so i went to pug today and asked about getting one, only to be told they dont sell them separately, and id have to buy a whole new alarm! so no way. i was just wondering, if there was anyway of bypassing the key and maybe putting in a switch instead? anyone have any experience with doing this?

You could just pop along to a place like Maplins & get another key switch.
The 2 wires would just connect up to the 2 terminals on your new switch.

Apologies if I'm stating the obvious here.
I've never had a 306, but on the near identical (apart from the body) ZX its the ignition key that turns off the siren (on a switch behind the driver's side headlight). Are you sure the 306 isn't the same?

Some PSA alarms use the ignition key, Some use a special key with "TEXTON" stamped on & some use the switch inside the car.
It doesnt matter anyway because the alarm has been turned off for a reason, I bet its gone faulty!
A Peugeot with a working factory fit alarm, That would be something special, The alarm system is not very good at the end of the day mate, They have a very very good habit of giving loads of trouble & false alarms, Just look at my siggy below.

The last time I had a loook, it appeared to be more than a simple two wire switch. There is quite a thick bunch of wires coming up to the switch. Probably a double pole double throw switch along with a short circuit alarm switched loop, for good measure.
I'd agree with PowerLee, its probably switched off because its knackered. If you really do want to try the switch, you could drill out the barrel (locksmith forum may be of more help

My alarm works fine

But thats no help i guess.... I think the phase 1 306's had the key under the bonnet system, as my L reg one did, but my P reg XSI has no extra key.

The last one I looked at was just 2 wires moulded to the bottom of the keyswitch.
The siren has its own built in battery & all the keyswitch does is turn the siren sounder on & off, You only need the keyswitch when you dissconect the battery or pull the fuse.
