Well ive been in my boss's car with his twice and a couple of times with his ipac windows ce pc thing running a sat nav program and the tom tom was infinitly better. The screen update is so quick and nice touch screen etc. Route plotting is very quick. He downloaded all the latest speed camera database thing and it had one thats only been up for 3 months. My friends road angel doesnt have one thats been in Hastings for over 5 years.
You can set it to warn on distance to a camera I think, also things like petrol stations which is quite handy. He seems happy with it and has recomended it to 2 other people.

One thing I have stumbled across regarding satnav is this:
www.voiceskins.com
A pretty good idea methinks! Beats the boring voices you get with the packages!

Spend a while looking around
http://www.pocketgps.co.uk/modules.php?name=Forums
for options on GPS systems.
I have a Navman 630 (V3) which I am quite happy with.

I’ve had a tom tom for over 2 years now. What can I say? I find it to be an excellent piece of kit. I opted for a separate hand held PC (Personal digital assistant PDA). + the Tom Tom gps receiver & maps. I use it every day for work even if I known where I’m going as it shows distances to next roundabout, motorway exit ect which I find very useful. It make driving in cities more relaxed as you’re not constantly looking for signs or turnings.
On the down side (and these are only small points) If a junction is complicated you can’t always rely on the voice instructions, but I find the 3D moving map a much simpler reference and use the voice as a reminder. The second point is out of date digital maps. These are produce by a third party. Due to the huge task of mapping I gather that the maps can be out of date before the end user receives them. Some roads that that have existed for 50 years or more are shown but not named and are shown as “unknown road” irritating if it happens to be the road you’re searching for!
Tele atlas produce maps that can be used with Tom Tom but I don’t know how up to date they are.
Overall 8/10
There is a good forum to be found via www.pocketgps.co.uk It should give you a good feel of users thoughts.
