Whats Mr B been up to today ? - Part 2

Unread post by Dave Bamber »

Another busy day Saturday. Time to bolt it all together and poke it back under the lid!
Here's the lump ready for in with a new clutch, drive shaft seals and a Mitsubishi starter motor off a Pug 205.

On the crane.
Image
Silly angle to get the gearbox under the battery tray.
Image
It's in and on the mountings. Whoohoo! 25 minutes from on the crane to this point[:D]
Image
An hour later, the exhaust is connected, rear mount attached and fuel system bled. Turn over on the key to bleed the injector pipes, nip up the unions, a bit of heaters.........Starts first time!

I is a happy bunny[:D][:D][:D][:D][:D]

I finally finished a 7pm, in the dark. I still need the refit the cooling fan and tidy up a bit of wiring.
I spent today welding up a hole in the inner wing behind the LHM tank, Originally the hole was about 2 inches long, once I'd cleaned up the area, the damned thing was 7 inches long and 3 high! No pictures as my welding is stong but untidy, so I ain't showing it off[:I] I ended up removing the O/S wing and bumper for access. So, the poor thing is still front wheel free, with no bumper and grill, and the MOT ran out on Friday[:(!]
More work still needed to finish but the main jobs (HG and clutch) are done, no leaks and the clutch is nice and light. I hate to think of the cost of paying to have these jobs done[:0] So far I have spent about £240 in parts and took about 25 hours, this includes the welding today.

(James Bond baddy voice) Aaaahhh Mr S, I've been expecting you............[}:)]
It's been a long weekend but a very enjoyable one. Biggest job I've taken on at home since I left the tools 14 years ago for sure. The beer is going down well now though[;)]

You could be in luck mate.
If he does too much more of this, the house next door will probably be up for rent.[:D][:D][:D]

Dave,
while going through the pictures that you posted, I saw that there is something sticking to your oil filter. May I know what it is?
Thanks

It's a little device called a Bear Trap. It's 4 powerful magnates, the idea is any metallic particles are attracted to them and stay in the filter. It's that powerfull that when I was tightening up the hose clip on the oil cooler, the screw driver kept getting pulled off and sticking to the filter!
Have a look here, I'm nothing to do with them other than a satified punter.

Dave,
You seem to have aged years since I last saw you. It must be the effect of the BX. [:0] [}:)]
ha ha ha.

Just a quick update, took the BX for an MOT today and it passed[:D] The smoke test result was 0.34, not bad for a 12 year old 143,000 mile motor.
The BX is running very well, handles like a dream and is super smooth on the road[:p]
Thanks guys for your comments and advice. A HUGE ta to our man Jon whom is to blame for me starting this loony quest for another BX[B)]
Oh, and I've had a shave too[:o)]
