Temperature reading in 306 XTDT

Unread post by blueagle78 »

I bought my 306 couple of months ago and it shows temperature right next to the clock. I didn't get any manuals with the car so I'm just wondering what temperature it reads. Its always around 60 even though now a days the temperature outside is minus and I don't think the internal temperature of the car is 60 either!
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Its the external air temperature.
The temperature sensor is the little blob under the near side wing mirror (passenger side). If you dont see it, a past owner may have replaced a broken wing mirror with a lower spec models.
Otherwise it sounds like you make have broken wiring possibly in the door loom.

If the sensor is missing or totally shot, the clock will show a temperature of "---". A way-out reading is suggestive of a faulty sensor.
The sensor is housed in the nearside mirror, although when I bought some replacement mirrors for my 306 from GSF the sensor was actually in the offside mirror so I had to move it to the correct side.

Thanks for your help guys. Would you please let me know if the temp sensor is somewhere inside the nearside mirror or its something at the bottom of it and how does it look like?
If its faulty then can I get a new one from GSF or ........................?

The sensor is in the hinge part of the mirror housing of the nearside mirror. If you look at the underside of the hinge you'll see a small plastic panel, possibly with a small black nodule sticking out, which is the sensor. On earlier models like yours I think the sensor was totally hidden inside the hinge, so remove the panel and you should see it floating around in there.
The sensor plugs into the big connector for the leccy mirror and it's a bit fiddly removing it, so I'd take the mirror off the car and take it indoors where it's nice and warm [8D]

a new sensor from peugeot is about £18. a tad on the expensive side for what is basically a 2p thermistor. I am currently running with a breakers-yard one which is fine. when that fails, I'll be fitting a generic thermistor.
