Xantia Hdi Click!

Post by silverback »

Sometimes, when cold, my '99 Xantia 110 Hdi 'clicks'(once) when the accelerator pedal is pressed. This has another effect of dimming the dash lights when the 'click' happens, as if its an electrical short circuit or load.
When the car is warm, or when the ambient temperature is high, this doesn't happen.
Does anyone have a clue as to what is going on please?

Is this immediately after startup, or after some seconds or minutes?

It is immediately after startup, and 'goes away' after a few minutes.
The click seems to be coming from the front left side of the car (near battery?), and it clicks every time the pedal is depressed.

My EGR makes a clicking sound when I press the acclarator.
Mine's Xantia is a 1.9TD not an HDI.

Exhaust Gas Recirculation - has pumps and all sorts of Gubbins to make your engine smell sweeter! and is considered a better answer than getting the thing to burn fuel fully in the first place.
No doubt someone else will fill in the details. My knowledge really stops with descriptions of 1970's California spec so not much use!

The EGR valve takes exhaust gas into the inlet of the engine, it helps cut down on nitrogen oxide emissions at idle. The EGR valve is between the two manifolds.
